Tóth T., L. Blaskó. 2009. Changes in soil salinity and alkalinity during two years of irrigation with saline groundwater in the semihumid Carpathian Basin. Pedologist. Vol. 53. (No.3.) pp33-37. Abstract: The effect of two years long irrigation with shallow groundwater was evaluated in two typical areas of the Great Hungarian Plain. The site at Kunmadaras has light texture and the site at Karcag has heavy texture. There was no evident disadvantages of irrigation with groundwater at the Kunmadaras light textured site. No increase in soil salinity, but increase in subsoil alkalinity was found at the Karcag heavy textured site. Key words: Alkalinization, Drainage, Irrigation-Induced Salinization, Sodification
